Rental Textbook FAQs
When are textbooks available to rent?
Typically, if a textbook is rentable it will be available approximately 2 weeks before the start of a semester. (Fall, winter, spring, summer).
I’m only 17, can I rent my textbook?
Unfortunately, no. You must be 18 to be able to enter a legally binding contract. Therefore, you must be 18 to rent your textbook.
Can I return my rented book for a refund?
You will only receive a refund if you return your rental within 10 days of receiving it.
What if I forget to return my rental book before the due date?
Rental textbooks not returned by or on the due date will be charged the replacement value between the rental price and purchase price. This charge will be placed on your rental guarantee tender used at the time you rented your textbook. You can also contact Nebraska Book Company to see if you can return the textbook directly to them.
How long is a rental period?
Textbooks are rented for one semester (fall winter, spring, summer). If you need to utilize for more than one semester you will need to rent for each semester.
What condition does my rental textbook need to be in to return it?
Rentals that are damaged will not be accepted back. Staff will inspect your rental textbook for normal wear and tear. Rental textbooks with missing covers or pages, excessive highlighting or markings, water(liquid) damage will not be accepted back and charges will incur.
How do I know when my rental is due?
The due date will be listed on your packing slip. Typically, rentals are due at the end of the semester. Rental due dates are posted on the bookstore’s website on the main page several weeks before the due date. You can return your rental textbook anytime during the semester if you are finished with it.
How do I return my rental textbook if I can’t make it to campus or I live out of state?
You can ship your rental textbook back via UPS, FedEx, or USPS. You will still be responsible for ensuring that it is received at the store by the due date. Rental textbooks not received by the due date will be considered late and a charge will incur.
